Aldnoah.Zero ; Summer season’s most CG heavy series?!

Standard

Hey readers!

Thanks for checking in and reading up!

Tonight, I’ll be sharing my first thoughts on the first few episodes of Aldnoah,Zero, a series I was highly anticipating since last season.

First off, let me tell you this. These screenshots will not do any justice on the work on this series. Though I have no clue about any history on this series whatsoever. I’m not even sure if there’s a visual novel or not. I’d like to dig around, but I’d like to share my thoughts about the series before I do so.

So we’re about 3 weeks, maybe 1 month into Summer season, depending how you’d like to count it. I usually start with the first episode of any series on my pick-up list. So it’s 3 weeks for me, I believe. Or something like that. Whatever, we get the point. And we’re currently on episode 3 of Aldnoah.Zero.

 Brief series introduction :

In 1972, a hypergate was discovered on the surface of the moon, and humanity began migrating to Mars and settling there. However, eventually the seeds of war were sown.

When I started the series, I wasn’t expecting much out of it. It sounded like any other mecha series with aliens and what not. But I’d have to give A-1 Pictures, a round of applause. Because the CG on this series is just simply amazing. I’m shocked that there’s so much detailed put into the surroundings and scenery. I was left in awe after the first few minutes of the first episode.

Now, I thought it was only just the opening of the episode that was detailed. But as I watched through the rest of the episode, I came to conclusion that they focused more on scenery and background details over character details, which has caught my full attention.

So moving on, besides the amazing CG work of Aldnoah,Zero, the lighting work is simply gorgeous and amazing also. Here are a few screenshots that I personally think is self explanatory

I mean, look at the detail put into this over view shot

vlcsnap-2014-07-19-21h54m59s197

It is simply amazing

It definitely has been a while since I’ve seen work this detailed for a series. So hopefully, it will continue to be this way onward till the end.

Putting the animation aside for this series, the storyline so far seems promising. Sure it’s just another mecha series, fighting with other giant mecha, and doing mecha things, but surprisingly, I feel like there is a ton of back story to this series, that hopefully will be shown and told of through out the season. I won’t get into detail of the first few episodes of what goes on and what’s happening at the moment, because I highly recommend you this series if you have any interest whatsoever in CG work, or mechas.

vlcsnap-2014-07-19-21h57m39s244

vlcsnap-2014-07-19-22h29m07s189

The story also seems to be progressing very well, seeing how both the cause and effect of the current situation happened during the first episode, and the action that was taken right at the end. Though it seems rushed, I found it to be well enough for my personal tastes. There wasn’t any filler information through the sequence of the scenario, at the same time, there wasn’t an overload of information, where you can foreshadow the whole series.

In conclusion, I do hope this series continues with amazing progress in story and amazing work in the animation. It would break my heart to see it fall apart like Tokyo Ravens.

Thanks for reading, readers and good-doers!

Until next time,

It’s been a while!

Standard

Hey there readers,

I hope you’re all doing well and still keeping up with the nerd life and being non-social like I am!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve last posted here and I do apologize for that unannounced hiatus due to my computer deciding to burst into flames and dying on me. And it’s very hard to run this on mobile, especially when you’d like to include screenshots and such. But have no fear, I’m back now with some partners in crime to help me help you guys and share our thoughts and love.

But first off let me pick off where I last left off. If I’m winging it correctly and not over shooting it, I was MIA for 2 seasons, which I did keep up with, but I will most likely delay those write ups and final thoughts of the series I kept up with till I get to the half way mark with Summer seasons. Mainly because I don’t want to clog things up and I’d like to reorganize the page. So those will come soon enough.

As for figure reviews, I will definitely have some up soon also, now that I have my hands on proper camera equipment. Not the best but it sure beats a cellphone.

And last but not least, I do have a new team member, who is a dear great friend of mine who shares the same interests as I do and would like to also help me share the love of 2D with the rest of the world. She will introduce herself, because she loves self introductions.

So moving on for Summer season, here is my pick up list!

  • Aldnoah.Zero
  • Akame ga Kill
  • Fate/Kaleid
  • Locodol
  • Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
  • Glasslip
  • Hanayamata
  • Persona 4G
  • Rail Wars
  • Sabagebu
  • SAO2
  • Tokyo ESP
  • Tokyo Ghoul
  • Zankyou no Terror

And here are my back log for this season. I usually don’t have a back log but I decided to just pick these up and watch them for my opened days. They don’t seem to peak my interests, but I’m not one to judge a season by it’s poster art!

  • Bakumatsu Rock
  • Jinsei
  • Majimoji Rurumo
  • Momo Kyun Sword
  • Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!
  • Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance

I’m actually looking forward to a few things this season. Seeing that this season is very CG heavy and looks like everything is done digitally besides character work, I’m expecting a storyline or manga adaption to stand toe-and-toe with the animation. Not only that, but I do hope there isn’t anything like Tokyo Ravens going on this season.

If you have not watched Tokyo Ravens, then you would have to wait for my write up on it. But since that’s not going to be a while, I’ll just spill the beans here.

Tokyo Ravens was a pretty good series, I’d have to say. I would recommend it for any casual viewer or just someone who’d like to kill off some time with a few good laughs. The animation for the series started off very very strong, infact, they were very CG heavy also the first few episodes, and it started to die down and turned into some B-rated-meet-the-deadline kind of stuff. It wasn’t terrible, but you would expect more considering how much detail was put into the first few episodes, right?

So aside from that, I’m looking forward to writing up a lot more since I have my new battle station to work with and on.

Thanks for reading and sticking around!

Space Dandy and Witch Craft Works’ first thoughts

Standard

Hey there readers, I hope you’re all having a nice relaxing Sunday. With Winter season opening up this week, I’m pretty sure it’s a lot more relaxing now, right? Today, we have Space Dandy and Witch Craft Works which was on my pick up list. Of course Space Dandy aired on Toonami in US before Japan, so I decided to watch both.

But let’s get to how I feel about the series for today.

I was very excited for Space Dandy and I expected no less from Funimation. The animation was amazing, and every character design in-series was unique, and I honestly am speechless about their CG. Now if there’s anyone who I’d expect to overkill a series with amazing animation, it’d be Funimation with all their funding put into the series.

So anyway, onward to my thoughts about the series opening. Now you’ve all probably seen it already, since it aired in US before Japan, unless you decided to wait for the Japan release instead, you should know that the first episode was all over the place. Not in a bad way, but more of how the animation was. Personally I was glad I watched it twice before writing this. The coloring and animation threw me off a few times since it kept jumping around. Aside from the animation, the series seems very promising with the amount of comedy in the first episode. Now for a quick summary, it’s a series about a Dandy in space. Ha! Dandy is apparently an Alien Hunter that has something to say about women’s breasts, and that is that you shouldn’t focus on women’s chest only, but the overall figure. I can agree with that, I suppose. Apparently, Dandy also has some special power, and for a short moment the idea of hunting him down came into scene. So I look forward to the amount of fight scenes this series has. I can’t say much about the story line from just the first episode, but I do think that it’s a series with a different story each episode. But let’s see how it goes at the half way mark of the series.

I definitely recommend checking out Space Dandy, but be ready for the tons crazy cool animation. I’m pretty excited for the next episode since the preview showed Jessie from Team Rocket. I kid, though that character does look like her.

vlcsnap-2014-01-05-20h59m29s48

Screen cap relates to Space Dandy and post.

Now let’s talk about Witch Craft Works.

I honestly wasn’t all that interested to begin with, but I thought I’d give the whole ‘witch’ thing a try again. I thought it was basically just another highschool romance comedy with some characters secretly going around with special powers doing stuff and stuff. I was very close. Of course I still decided to watch it. Overall the animation was pretty awesome, of course it doesn’t compare to Space Dandy, or Setokai Yakuidomo, but the CG isn’t backyard done. There really isn’t much to say about this series, since it does seem like it’s just like any other highschool-comedy-romance-magicalpower-andstuff series. But I do have to say, I like the fact that the producers take the whole ‘witch’ feeling and incorporate it into the series. Various other witch based series doesn’t seem to revolve around the general idea of a witch, but more of just another person with a magical broom and some magical powers. Hence why I took a liking to this series. Of course it’s not all witch hunting and all, but it does respect the idea of a witch.

The male protagonist apparently is a princess, and a master. So expect some explanation to that sometime in the next few episodes. And he is to be protected by the female protagonist, who apparently is some super rad fire witch. Of course I don’t provide names since it would be a lot of re-reading, but I should probably start doing that. Anyway, aside from that, his whole life just flips around when the girl who doesn’t talk to him in the least bit and is the star of the whole school suddenly starts getting magicool around him and protects him from raging robotic rabbit knights. Sounds just like any other awesome highschool life. There seems to be some romance between the two, but aside from that I do like where this is going with all their magicool action.

vlcsnap-2014-01-05-19h49m53s10 vlcsnap-2014-01-05-19h50m08s174 vlcsnap-2014-01-05-19h50m14s230

That’s some fantastic wiener work there.

Anyway, I’d have to say, this series does seem promising since there are quite a few characters in the series that all seem to be related in some way. I really look forward to all the other witches being introduced into the series, since I do like how there is one specific element one. Overall, I do recommend this series to people who are looking for something to fill up their week with. Thought it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, I did enjoy the start of this series, along side with Space Dandy.

That’s all for tonight, readers. I do hope to get my PC rig up and about soon so I can start doing videos instead of typing all of this. So until then!

Thank you for reading, and don’t forget to share your thoughts with me also! Until next time!

Cheers to a start of Winter season

Standard

Hey there readers, I hope you’re all ready for Winter’s anime season! I sure am! I’m glad to say that I opened my season with Seitokai Yakuindomo season 2, and I have to say, it was a lot better than I had expected.

The first episode was subbed and released today on nyaa.eu. Now, you’re probably wondering whats the big deal. Well, I didn’t check the air dates on any of the series I decided to keep up with, so it’s a lot more exciting to find out when it does air. But anyway, let’s get to whats new about season 2, if you’re familiar with the series.

Now here’s the general idea of the first season. All girls high school goes co-ed, tons of perverted jokes, and a lot of comedic features around sexual activities. Of course, there is no sexual activities actually going on IN the series, since it’s mainly a comedy series.

So what’s new about season 2? Well, I’d have to say, the animation in the preview was absolutely stunning, and I thought, ‘Previews are always animated better than the actual series.’ Well, I thought wrong. The series’ animation is amazing, compared to season 1. I absolutely love the new CG for season 2. I don’t want to spoil anything for you readers but, you’ll be surprised at how much detail was put into the animation for this series. Of course it’s not the BEST animation, but I’d have to give the animation for the first episode a solid 9/10. Reason being that the producers utilize detailed surroundings while still maintaining the comedic style of the characters and scenes. I absolutely love detailed surroundings, because it goes to show that the animators focused on little details instead of just producing a series to meet deadlines.

vlcsnap-2014-01-04-18h14m51s143

Here’s a screen cap of episode 1 of season 2. Of course it’s not one that shows how well the animation is in this season, but if you noticed, there’s a lot more characters now. That means more girls to add to harems or propose to be your waifu!! I’m definitely excited to see more screen time for all of the newer characters, and I definitely look forward to seeing what this season will dish out this time. The first season had me laughing left and right with all the punch lines and all, but overall just a comedy anime that doesn’t feel forced.

I also love their new OP song, which is very catchy in my opinion. So I definitely look forward to picking up a copy of their soundtracks.

Now here’s the real question. Do I recommend this series to people? I definitely would recommend this series to people, of course over the age of 18. Or whatever your age of consent is. There are tons of dirty jokes and what not, but even though there’s nothing sexual going on, I think it’ll still be a bad influence among younger children to learn such jokes and get ideas. Kids’ brains are sponges and they’ll take anything in really. So definitely a no to viewers under the age of consent.

The start of this series also shows a lot of views from different clubs of the school, which I look forward to. I have a good feeling that season 2 will focus more around all the characters now, instead of the general main group. So I definitely look forward to what they have in store for all the clubs and new characters in the future.

This will be a 12 episode series, like season 1. If you torrent your own anime, I believe this will be a new episode every Saturday due to the sub and release date being today, Jan. 4th. But that may change due to actual release airing days.

That’s all for today, readers. Let’s all have a great start to Winter season. Until next time!

Happy belated New Years!

Standard

Happy New Years, readers! Or, something like that. It’s a few days after New Years already, but I’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year anyway. Since I didn’t get the chance to on the actual day. I do apologize for my late post, I was caught up with some work and spending time with friends and family. But I will be continuing regular weekly posts now. I also wanted to create my first video for FFE, but I’m having editing issues with my current computer so I’ll have to push that back until I finish my rebuild.

So let’s start off the New Year with a kick. I’m sure you guys are also ready for Winter anime season to kick in, right? I sure am. And if you’re up to date with the most recent anime previews, then you might have heard about SAO(Sword Art Online) having a second season! This was confirmed at the end of the special that was aired on New Years Eve, I believe. I missed the release hour and watched it the next day. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s a 1 hour and 40 minute special recapping the first season of SAO with a bit of fan service. Let’s take a look at what you’ll be expecting in the special.

vlcsnap-2014-01-01-14h15m03s55
vlcsnap-2014-01-01-14h15m33s110
vlcsnap-2014-01-03-01h30m04s125 vlcsnap-2014-01-03-01h31m35s11 vlcsnap-2014-01-03-01h31m57s234

Now from the screen caps, you can get a general idea of what’s kinda of fan service was in the special. I’ll admit it’s not much, but I still consider it fan service. Other than seeing most of the main heroines of the series in bikinis, you also get a pretty rad fighting scene. Other than that, most of it is just recaps from the series.

In all honesty, you basically just re-watch the whole series in this single special. I have no confirmed it myself, but I do believe the special was reanimated but it just might be the BD version of the series. I do notice more detailing and a lot nicer animation, but I’ll have to go back to confirm if it’s reanimated or now. But it is still nice to see!

Now overall, do I recommend you to watch this? I’ll be honest, the only reason I would recommend this to someone to watch is to skim through the series in 1hr and 40mins, or just watch it for the fan service. There was nothing significant about this special really. If you’re a fan of SAO, then you might just appreciate the small fan service given to us, and short action scenes. If you’re not familiar with SAO, you’re probably better off just watching this if you have 2 hours to kill off.

Did I mention blue haired Asuna looks pretty awesome? But Liz is still my personal favorite.

Now back to our topic of SAO season 2. Am I excited? Not really. I feel like it’s going to be very recycled with a slight adjustment to the story line compared to SAO season 1. I personally am not a fan of the community for SAO, mainly because majority of their fans claimed SAO was best anime of the year and such, without given other series a chance. I’m sure all of them enjoyed SAO, but that’s just one sided. I will however keep up to date with SAO, and I have added it to my confirmed viewing list, and I’ll also be doing my periodic review on it. But I don’t have a good feeling about the series and might end up dropping it, unless I decide to just watch it mainly for character designs, because those character designs look pretty rad if I say so myself.

That’s a lot of reading for today, so I’ll end it here for now. Until next time readers! I hope you enjoy my thoughts of the SAO special and cup of tea about SAO season 2. I look forward to a great year with you all! Until next time!

Season’s greetings

Standard

As Fall anime season comes to a very strong end, I’m sure we’re all welcoming the upcoming Winter season with open arms. Right? Right.

Of course there are still a few series that are continuing from Fall season into Winter, which I am still keeping up with. A few titles such as Kill La Kill, Log Horizon, Yowamushi Pedal, and Tokyo Ravens. There are a few other series, but I’m not keeping up to date with them since they haven’t struck my interest. A few titles would be Golden Time, Kuroko no Basket 2, and Strike the Blood. However I do look forward to batching Magi season 2 when it is completed.

Now lets forget about Fall season for a bit and focus on the upcoming Winter season. There are quite a few series that have caught my attention considering I haven’t even heard of these series ever. I don’t spend as much time with manga as much as I would like to due to a busy schedule so I’m pretty sure there are a few manga adaptions and continuation of previous series from a past season.

Here’s my personal list of what I’m going to be checking out in Winter season.

  • Buddy Complex
  • Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Season 2
  • D-Frag!
  • Mahou Sensou
  • Nisekoi
  • Nobunaga the Fool
  • Nobunagun
  • Seitokai Yakuindomo*
  • Space Dandy
  • Witch Craft Works

Now that’s a long list, but I’m not done! Here’s my list of what I might pick up over time.

  • Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda
  • Sakura Trick
  • Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga.
  • Noragami
  • Nourin
  • Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil
  • Z/X IGNITION

Excuse any misspelling on my list.

Now if you’re wondering why I chose so many animes, I like to fill my week up with at least a series or two per day. That way I have something to look forward to after a long day of work. However I will not be reviewing each and every episode at the end of the day. I personally think that’s over killing a review. One episode is not capable of determining the whole series’ quality. So I have no idea why people judge the series on a single episode when the series is still ongoing. But anyway, I will be doing reviews in sections to the on-going series. I will give my thoughts on the beginning of the series, the middle of the series, and the final thoughts on the complete series as the last review. I’d like to provide this method of review for my readers and viewers just in-case they would like to look into a series but don’t want to spend that 20 minutes of their life to not enjoy the anime themselves. So look forward to it!

Note that I said viewers also, because I will be doing my reviews by video AND written just in-case you guys don’t like hearing my voice. Of course the written review will more or less be what you can listen into instead.

I look forward to a great year of 2014 with you guys and girls, so I hope to get along with you all! If you have a series recommendation or a product you’d like me to review, I’ll try my best to get my hands on those subjects and share my thoughts with you all. Feel free to share your thoughts about my list and my preferred method of reviewing!
